Australian Student Leadership Conference
Last Friday, 15 January St John’s Prefects attended the Emmanuel College at UQ, St Lucia to participate in a three day Student Leadership Conference. The conference is run by an organisation called yLead, who in 2014 assisted in the development of over 27,000 young individuals.
The main goals of the conference was to ensure that student leaders left with a stronger sense of self – awareness and leadership skills, motivation and drive to be actively involved in the school community, have the ability to set goals and also to form relationships with other student leaders throughout Australia.
Each year St John’s Prefects nominate a theme at the beginning of the year, for example last year the theme was ‘The Block’. Throughout the conference our 2016 Prefects worked towards forming a theme for the school year and also a variety of activities which link to the chosen theme.
The program also recognises that public speaking can be confronting and therefore this element is incorporated into the program. Students had the opportunity to listen to a variety of motivational speakers who focused on leadership.
St John’s is confident that the 2016 Prefects will utlise these new leadership skills to lead the school through another very successful year.
