From September 2016 – St John’s new Director of Performing Arts

16.12.2016

Welcome Mr Russell Morgan, St John’s new Director of Performing Arts who has commenced this term just as Stage 2 of the Performing Arts Centre of Excellence is shortly to commence construction – a fresh beginning to expand on a wonderful foundation.

Russell comes to St John’s from Nambour Christian College, where he taught for 15 years, and was Head of Creative and Performing Arts for 10 years.  Russell brings a wealth of experience in the arts including teaching, directing, producing, designing and choreographing all aspects of school performance life.  He is also the founding Director of Inside Out Theatre Company, a community theatre group who also runs a primary drama program teaching drama and performing productions.

Not only is Russell an experienced teacher, he also brings years of experience in performing in both professional and amateur realms.

Russell describes himself as a passionate, dedicated and energetic leader and teacher who strives to provide the best opportunities for student and staff.  He aims to develop students’ academic learning, as well as developing their character and good citizenship.

St John’s is looking forward to harnessing the energy and experience that Russell has brought to St John’s to take our Performing Arts Centre of Excellence into the next development phase.  Russell’s vision is to grow the passion for the Arts within the students through excellent programs and experiences with an element of fun.  “Life is a musical; many aren’t brave enough to burst into song or swing on that lamp post” Russell said.  Russell encourages students to take those risks within a safe environment to allow self-expression and showcase their talents.  He wants to inspire through his passion and love of what he does to show through and to other people.

Russell’s philosophy of the Arts is that the world has so many dark and troublesome facets that entertainment is required to bring joy and allow escapism so that one can develop hope.  The Arts and live entertainment, whether it be music, drama or visual art provides colour to the world and real faces, rather than screens.

St John’s Anglican College is well known in the community as a school of excellence in the provision of outstanding learning opportunities in all academic areas for its students and the Performing Arts Centre of Excellence is no exception.

It would be a pleasure to provide you with a tour of our Performing Arts Centre of Excellence just contact our Registrar, Janette Collins jcollins@sjac.qld.edu.au to arrange a time.
