Go Karting Champion

23.10.2015

St John’s student, Hayden started racing karts at the young age of seven in a class called Cadets, which is the youngest category. Over the years as each competitor becomes older and more experienced they move up in classes which includes, Rookies followed by Juniors and then onto Seniors. Hayden currently competes in the Senior’s class.

Hayden was introduced to karting by his father, Craig who has been involved in the sport since he was a young adult.

Hayden has risen through the rankings by placing in the top three in a lot of his Sprint Kart Racing.  His family have strongly supported his love for the sport by travelling as far North as Rockhampton and as far South as Sydney.

Many of the current V8 Supercar drivers such as Mark Winterbottom, James Courtney and Scott McLaughlin along with Formula1 drivers including Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have a karting background.

At the age of 12 Hayden started competing in the SEK Endurance Series. This year, along with his father, his team is currently leading the championship with only one round to go.

Since Hayden has been competing in both the Queensland Endurance Series and Sprint Karting it has been noted how fast and competent he is as a young driver. This has led him to be nominated to compete in a one off event called Race of Stars, which was held over two days (16 and 17 October). The event took place at the Xtreme Karting Complex near the Gold Coast which included some of the best drivers from around the world.

Hayden ran mid field for all of his races, which he was quite happy with. Unfortunately in the final there was a major accident that occurred right in front of him and as much as he tried to avoid the situation the driver from behind pushed him into the accident.

Even though his Kart had been damaged he was still able to finish that race. The incident put him well behind this particular race, however to his excitement he was only half a second off the winning racers lap time. Overall Hayden placed 18 out of 40, which is a terrific achievement.

Congratulations Hayden!
