College Council

The risks and challenges of the governance role of independent school boards and councils reflect those of the corporate world. St John’s College Council Members has between its representatives a broad range of interests, talents and experience.

It seeks to implement excellence in governance as a key organisational goal by exercising principles of rigour, transparency and accountability. The College Council undertakes this goal for the College to achieve excellence in its educational, Christian and community mission, the governing body must be highly strategic and effective in its leadership, planning and oversight functions.

St John’s College Council is made up of up of six members including one FSAC Board member and five independent College Council members, and the College Principal, Deputy Principal – Curriculum and Innovation and the Business Manager who are non-voting members. The College Council is delegated the responsibility to govern and administer the operations of the College. The College Council’s role includes:

  • determining and implementing St John’s business and strategic plans.
  • formulating policies and procedures and ensuring St John’s adheres to all including child protection.
  • overseeing St John’s financial and operational performance.
  • monitoring the management of risks within St John’s.
  • being actively involved in the process of appointing the College Principal.
  • managing the ongoing performance of the College Principal.

The school Principal reports to the College Council and is responsible for the daily operations of the school.

Dr Carla Tromans

Chair, St John’s Council
EdD, M Ed, M Ed Stud, B Ed

Dr Tromans is currently Director and CEO of International House, a residential college at the University of Queensland. Previously she enjoyed a career in secondary education and administration in both Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Dr Tromans joined St John’s Anglican College Council in 2021 as a member and was appointed Chair in 2022.


Mrs Jane Harbison

Mrs Harbison brings to St John’s Council a wealth of experience in a broad range of commerce and expertise in strategy, finance and organisational culture. With a special interest in educational development, Mrs Harbison’s experience gained both overseas and in Australia will provide St John’s Council with sound guidance.


Mr Robert Jackson

St John’s Council Member
BA(Mil), GradDipMilStud, GradDipTrgMgt, FGIA, FIML, M-IAPP, JP(Qual)

Mr Jackson is currently the Director of Governance, Company Secretary and Privacy Officer of the MedHealth Group comprising 29 companies and has over 35 years’ experience in both Australian and International private sector organisations.

After starting his corporate career in human resources management, Mr Jackson’s responsibilities and experience have since extended to encompass corporate governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, legal, privacy, immigration, and facilities planning in the health and rehabilitation services, financial services, information technology, defence and aerospace sectors. Prior to that he was a Commissioned Army Officer.

Mr Jackson joined St John’s Anglican College Council in 2022.


Mr Rob McAdam

Mr McAdam has over 30 years in public practice with a broad range of experience advising businesses in the manufacturing, building and accommodation industries. In 1996, Mr McAdam, together with Mr John Siemon, established a business advisory firm McAdam Siemon.

In 2006 Mr McAdam was appointed Queensland State President of CPA Australia and over his 10 years involvement chaired a number of National and State committees including the Public Practice Committee, Quality Assurance committee and Divisional council.

Mr McAdam joined St John’s Anglican College Council in 2022.

 


Mrs Kristy Hammond

St John’s Council Member
BBus (Honours) (Marketing), EMBA, GAICD

Mrs Hammond is a senior commercial leader having worked predominately in the media and education industries. She is passionate about authentic leadership and strategy, problem solving through complexity, organisational design and development and commercial strategic partnerships.

Mrs Hammond has a breadth and depth of commercial acumen and senior strategic organisational experience in running companies, leading successful large and complex teams and designing and executing large offshore projects, specifically in the education, NFP and media industries.

Mrs Hammond joined St John’s Anglican College Council in  October 2022.
