Year Nine Refugee Simulation
The Year Nine students recently participated in a refugee simulation activity at the Brookfield Spirituality Centre on Monday 20 October. The activity was facilitated by Steven Hooper, a Chaplain employed by World Vision. He was assisted by some of our Year Ten students. Once the Year Nine students arrived at the Brookfield Spirituality Centre they formed cultural groups and then had the challenge of getting into the refugee camp and try to purchase basic needs. Each group was allocated a small amount of coins which they could use to buy supplies with. As the game progressed the scenario changed and caused more pressure for the students in the refugee camp. Some students were separated from their group and couldn’t get into the camp as they had no identification. The duration of the game was an hour and by the end of this time the students had a small glimpse of some of the issues that refugees face on a daily basis.
