2018, a great year ahead

1.2.2018

The school holidays provided a welcome break from normal routines and allowed our students and teachers to recharge their batteries in readiness for the coming year.
While many teachers have prepared their teaching programs and resources for the return of students in late January, the St John’s community will be gearing up for the 25th Year Celebrations during 2018. It takes 30 years to establish a new school and this year we will have the opportunity to showcase our progress, involving those who have journeyed with us in the past two decades. As a school community this is a significant event and it also allows our staff and students to include the wider community in the celebrations some of which include the Official Opening of the Performing Arts Centre in February, the 25th Year Carnival in May, Foundation Week Ceremonies and a Community Jazz Concert in July and the Gala Dinner in September.
A very special performer for the Community Jazz Concert is renowned jazz performer James Morrison. James Morrison is, by anybody’s standard, a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays piano, all brass, saxophones double bass. While James is with us he will also be conducting workshops for instrumental music students.
More information about these events will be available as the year progresses and we encourage all of the St John’s and wider community as well as past staff, students and parents to join us as we celebrate during this exciting the year.
Also, we are pleased to let you know that from the first day of school in 2018 we begin our extended transport network of St John’s buses. We are now providing students in the Ipswich, Flinders View, Brookwater and Augustine Heights / Springfield corridor with the option to take advantage of the outstanding opportunities students currently enjoy at St John’s. Our primary is now an International Baccalaureate World School with our middle school scheduled to gain accreditation mid-year. Our new service also extends to Kenmore to support surrounding suburbs.
St John’s first Open Day for 2018 is Saturday 24 February, 9am to 12 noon. Enrolment interviews will be available on the morning by appointment. You can contact our Registrar, Janette Collins jcollins@sjac.qld.edu.au to make a time to meet with our Principal and Senior Leadership team to secure a place for your child.
We look forward to sharing this very exciting year with your family.
