Australian Volleyball Academy Announcement

Congratulations to St John’s Year 12 student Matthew Kemp who has been accepted to join the Australian Volleyball Academy in 2021. Matthew will join the 2021 cohort in January at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

It was in 2015 that Matthew began playing volleyball for St John’s and has since gone on to play representative volleyball and participate in many junior development camps. In 2019, he travelled internationally to play in U21 National Championships in Thailand.

“I am keen for the opportunity to further develop my skills” said Matthew on his 2021 AVA signing. “I can’t wait to work with the best coaches and athletes in Australia to guide me on my volleyball pathway”.

Matthew first heard about the AVA through his involvement with the Australian Junior Development Program in 2018. Since then, the young athlete has had the opportunities to play in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore as well as having played against visiting teams from Japan and New Zealand.
