Celebrating 100 Days of Prep

Tue, 10/08/2021Posted by:

St John’s 2021 Prep students would have responded to 600 bell rings, attended 18 assemblies, and worn their sports uniform 39 times in their first 100 days of Prep! At St John’s, while the important milestone of 100 days until graduation for our Year 12 students is recognised and celebrated, so too is 100 days since our Prep students commenced their schooling journey at the College.

Recently our Prep students marked this occasion and the many important milestones reached so far. All the names and sounds of the alphabet letters have been learnt with students applying this skill to read and attempt to write words. Writing and recognising the numbers up to ten and experimenting with adding these up and making number sentences. Counting to 20 and back, and students were set the challenge of learning to count to 100 in preparation for the 100th day!

As one of only a few schools in Brisbane offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), we use the PYP units as a mode of learning. Even as some of the youngest school students at the College, the value is placed on being a part of the community and the importance of inclusion by learning about Who We Are through friendships, family and the community in and out of the classroom.

The theme of 100 continues throughout the week of celebration with students icing biscuits and decorating them with “hundreds” of lollies, a hunt for the numbers 1-100 in the playground and a special necklace with a 100 charm and pattern cereals on the string with special crowns!
