Ministerial Infrastructure Designation

Planning for the future

St John’s Anglican College is a Kindergarten to Year 12 co-educational Christian school founded in 1994 and located in the leafy surrounds of Forest Lake, Brisbane. The College has provided independent education and community facilities since its establishment.

Our Master Plan for the Secondary campus has progressed to the next phase of formal consultation and included the following changes aimed at improving the existing education facilities for both students and staff members:

Secondary Campus

  • extension to Block C (Specialist Building)
  • construction of Block F (Multipurpose Building) comprising a Health and Wellbeing Centre and Playing Courts
  • addition of Block H (Multipurpose Auditorium) to extend from existing Auditorium (Block J) and to comprise additional Music Practice Rooms, Performance Spaces, 125 Seat Lecture Theatre and Drama Facilities
  • construction of Block K (Aquatic Centre) a 3 storey facility incorporating a 50 metre pool, learn to swim facilities, grandstand, change rooms, classrooms and maintenance facilities
  • new 2 storey General Learning Building (Block L)
  • new single storey Chapel (Block M)
  • new Boarding Facilities (Block N) over 3 storeys
  • addition of a future Carparking area (90 spaces)

The College has endeavoured to provide a balance between the built form and open space areas while also planning for the projected growth of the campus.

Ministerial Infrastructure Designation

To deliver on our commitment to the College community we will request that the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning endorse this Master Plan and identify our campus as a ‘Ministerial Infrastructure Designation’ (MID) under the Planning Act 2016. This designation will apply to the whole campus which will be recognised for the following purposes:

  • educational facilities (Schedule 5, Part 2, Item 6 of the Planning Regulation 2017 [‘the Regulation’])
  • facilities at which an education and care service under the Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland) is operated (Schedule 5, Part 2, Item 9 of the Regulation)
  • sporting facilities (Schedule 5, Part 2, Item 17 of the Regulation)

A MID allows for the delivery of essential community infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and police/ ambulance/ fire stations. The MID process provides an alternative assessment pathway to lodging a development application with Brisbane City Council.

The proposed MID will be requested in accordance with Chapter 2, Part 5 of the Planning Act 2016. If the Master Plan and MID is approved, this designation would acknowledge and reflect what the College uses this land for today and secure development of the campus in the future.
