From November 2016 – Global Problem….No Problem!

Can you imagine the future world of work in which our children will find themselves in just a few short years? Every day I hear or read of people expressing amazement at the speed and magnitude of change. The challenges of work within the next decade will be exciting, no doubt. What we do know is that we must provide opportunities for children currently in our schools to develop high levels of literacy and numeracy as a foundation for being good communicators and collaborators, critical and creative thinkers, capable of working in teams on complex problems. Whether current students will be employed or an employer, they must be resilient and adept at change in complex situations. Recently students in our extension program, Future Thinkers, travelled to Melbourne to compete in the national finals of the Future Problem Solving competition with 13 other schools from across Australia. Students were given two hours to solve an issue in a ‘Global Workplace’ with a virtual office open 24/7 which included all the complexities such a scenario brings. Their clever solution was developed, involving Deep Wave Technology to process the work submitted
by the workers in different parts of the globe. When workplace issues were solved their scenario company was able to increase production and hire more full-time workers to complete the work
required. St John’s students were awarded first place on the day with and received an invitation to the finals in America in May 2017.
This competition also involved a creative production involving visual and performing arts skills titled “nobody ever got broke telling people what they wanted to hear”. The student created a witty and captivating presentation which also earned the students a Bronze Medal in the Senior section of this competition. Our students and staff continue to amaze with their achievements not only in our classrooms but nationally and internationally. We can’t help but be very excited about the future for St John’s students. If you would like to meet and talk to some of our highly skilled teachers, you are welcome to visit St John’s at any time. We have just introduced ‘Flexi Tours’ for busy families so to make a time that suits, please contact our Registrar, Janette Collins email or phone 3372 0176.
