Information, Research and Resource Centres
Operating College-wide, St John’s Information, Research and Resource Centres are where students are encouraged to develop a life-long passion for reading and express their curiosity and creativity. With comfy seating for quiet reading or studying, and flexible furniture designed for individual or collaborative learning, all students can find their place in this welcoming space.
In the Junior School, the ever-changing displays of both fiction and non-fiction books encourages students to develop and expand their reading preferences. The LEGO Corner and Makerspace spark the spirit of inquiry and imagination.
This centre also doubles up as an extension of the STEM Institute, providing access to a range of digital tools such as iPads, LEGO robotics, and Micro:bits.
All classes from Kindy to Year 6 have one lesson each week, and learn a range of skills from information literacy, research and referencing skills, to digital technologies skills such as typing, coding, and data management.
At the Secondary School, the Information and Resource Centre is a hub for tutoring, homework assistance, breakout rooms for College community events, literacy information sessions for students and research collaboration with teachers. Laptop support services for our students is also available in this centre throughout the week
Annual celebrations such as Book Week, Readers Cup, Student/Staff Debates and National Simultaneous Storytime are run across the centres to help instil a love of literature and learning in students of all ages. Even the youngest pre-kindy students among our community can enjoy the centres through regular Storytime Fun sessions held throughout the year.
