Student Success at the Interschool Equestrian National Championships

On the 25 of September, St John’s student Sophie Nicholls travelled to Toowoomba as one of the 105 strong teams representing Queensland in the Interschool Equestrian National Championships.  It is a team requirement to march in the Opening Ceremony as well as the Closing Ceremony which helps encourage every competitor and promote team spirit.

Sophie qualified in the Combined Training Primary on both her horses,  Bella in the 60cm and Rooney in the 80cm.  She was up against the top four riders from each state NSW, WA, VIC, NT, TAS and of course QLD!  Sophie did extremely well finishing Seventh on Bella and Eighth on Rooney out of the whole of Australia.  Sophie managed all this in very trying conditions,  35 degree heat and extreme winds that just never eased over the week.

Queensland won the overall trophy just to put the “icing on the cake”.  Sophie was proud to be representing both St John’s Anglican College and Queensland and is looking  forward to qualifying for next year which is to be held in Victoria!

We wish her luck for next year!
