Trent Nixon wins for Queensland in the Australian History Competition

It is Humanities Week this week at St John’s and what better way to celebrate it than by the awarding of a State Champion in our National History Competition?

Congratulations to Trent Nixon, Year Ten, who has been awarded the Queensland State Champion in the Australian History Competition 2014. State Champions receive a specially minted medal to acknowledge their achievements. Over 20,000 students from 400 schools throughout Australia entered the competition. Trent clearly understands the historical inquiry processes and is able to use them very effectively. What a great outcome for Trent!

The inclusion of History in the Australian Curriculum has recognised the significance of History as a critical element of a well rounded education. This led the History Teachers Association of Australia to develop The Australian History Competition in 2010 to promote the study of history in schools. The award is sponsored by Circle and HistoriCool Magazine.

Trent with proud parents.
