Welcoming New Staff to St John’s in 2022

2022 at St John’s brings a number of new staff and a breadth of new experience across the College. We are delighted to welcome our new staff on the Junior and Secondary campuses to our College community.

Junior Campus

Deborah Brown joins us from Canterbury College as a Primary Teacher bringing a breadth of teaching experiences.  Deborah has previous PYP experience and a strong focus on enabling students to take control of their own learning, to question and wonder, and most importantly to learn and discover in their own unique ways to the world around them.

Linda Dunne joins us from Glenleighden School in the role of Learning Enhancement and Support Teacher.  Having taught and held several leadership roles in a variety of schools in Australia and abroad, Linda brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experiences to our Learning Enhancement and Support program.  Linda has recently completed a Masters in Education and has significant knowledge of the IB PYP.

Michelle Luhrmann takes up the newly created role of Director Early Years at St John’s.  Previously holding the position of Director of Early Learning at Sheldon College for 21 years, Michelle will bring a significant amount of expertise to our Early Years program with a strong focus on compliance.  Michelle is an innovative and dedicated Early Childhood Educator and Leader keen to begin building positive and collaborative relationships with students, parents, educators and our broader community.

Chloe Rickard joins us in the role as a Primary Teacher having taught in Russia, Latvia, Thailand and most recently in Australia at St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy.  Chloe has also participated in numerous community based and volunteer activities globally and is excited to share some rich real-world experiences with our students on the Junior campus.

Chris Walker takes the role of Learning Enhancement and Support Teacher Aide (six-month contract).  Chris has previous experience working with school-aged children and is currently studying a degree in Education.  He has also been heavily involved in Health and PE sessions run for school-aged children particularly cricket.

Secondary Campus

Ryan Anspach has recently completed a double degree in Education and Arts and will join our community as a graduate teacher, taking up the role of Secondary Teacher – English/HASS.  Taking pride in his holistic approach to education, working collaboratively with his peers and leaders, Ryan is excited to start his career at St John’s to deliver authentic learning outcomes for our students.

Amy Armistead joins us from St Peter Claver College in the role of Secondary Mathematics Teacher.  A curriculum leader in Mathematics and a highly self-motivated individual who enjoys meeting challenges. Amy is dedicated to extra curricular opportunities for students, and as an Old Collegian of St John’s, she is looking forward to re-joining her College House.

Belinda Daff takes up the role of Secondary Teacher HASS and Drama.  Belinda entered her teaching career last year at Northpine Christian College and is keen to continue her professional journey at St John’s where she can continue to empower students to become people of influence in the community.

Emily Dixon takes up the role of Secondary Teacher HASS with a particular focus on Geography.  Emily has previously worked at Redeemer Lutheran College for twelve years and has a keen interest in global education, sport and outdoor education.

Callum Dyble commences in the role of IT Technician.  Callum is currently studying a degree in Information Technology and has previously worked within a school environment and for the Queensland government.  He is excited to join our College community and assisting staff and students in the area of IT.

Thomas (Tom) Dyke joins the College in the role of Assistant Facilities Manager for a period of twelve months.  Tom joins us from All Hallows’ School where he has been part of their Maintenance and Facilities team for approximately seven years and will bring a suite of carpentry skills to our team.

Emily Hughes has recently relocated to Queensland from Melbourne and takes up the role of Secondary English Teacher.  Having also previously taught in Singapore, London and Malaysia Emily will be able to draw upon her breadth of experiences and passion for teaching to create a wonderful learning environment.

Ron Lee has commenced a short-term contract as a Secondary Teacher – Chinese.  Ron has over 20 years of professional teaching experience with multicultural high school students in Queensland, South Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

Jessica Parry joins us from Indooroopilly State High School to take up the appointment of Head of Department Science.  A passionate and dedicated educator within both the secondary and tertiary sector for over 15 years, with previous academic leadership experience, Jessica is looking forward to working with staff to maximise outcomes for our students.

Mark Pennicott has recently completed a Bachelor of Education following previous careers in restorative justice, Queensland Police and the Royal Australian Air Force.  He has a passion for helping young people achieve their potential and is looking forward to joining our community and building strong working relationships with our stakeholders in his role of Science/Maths Teacher.

Ashley Smith joins us from Clairvaux Mackillop College to take up the appointment of Head of Department – Mathematics.  An extremely dedicated and passionate educator with significant leadership experience, Ashley is looking forward to working with staff to enhance the holistic education of our students.

Maritha Youell will be joining us from St Peters Lutheran College as our Secondary Mathematics and Digital Technologies Teacher.  Maritha has previously held roles within electrical engineering and will be able to bring a wealth of experiences to her learning and teaching environment.
