On World Lymphoma Awareness Day, Wednesday 16 September, Mater Research announced that St John’s Old Collegian, Dr Joshua Tobin (class of 2005) has been selected by the American Society of Hematology (ASH) to receive the 2021 ASH Global Research Award to help him better understand and identify high-risk patients with Follicular Lymphoma (FL).

The $150,000 ASH Global Research Award provides support to early-career investigators outside the United State and Canada to help them pursue research projects and assist them to progress to the next stage in their careers.

Joshua is a Researcher and clinician-scientist at the Mater, Brisbane and will use the award to design and validate a test that he hopes doctors will be able to use to identify this group of patients at an early stage so they can be offered new immunotherapy treatments.

Josh says, “Through the ASH Global Research Award, we are able to support the career growth of these future leaders and nurture collaboration across borders, fostering a diverse, global hematology research workforce.”
