On Tuesday 30 January 2024, St John’s Anglican College was buzzing with pride as the community gathered to celebrate outstanding accomplishments of the 2023 scholars and extend honours to the deserving recipients of the 2024 scholarships.

The College, known for its commitment to academic excellence, has witnessed a steady rise in performance since the introduction of the new ATAR system in 2020. Deputy Principal – Curriculum and Innovation, Mr Andrew Landroth said “the graduates present here today, as well as those who are not, have demonstrated significant courage, resilience, perseverance, patience, understanding and faith well beyond their years, and for that they should be commended.”

The achievements of the 2023 graduates have exceeded previous records, setting a new standard for excellence. The impressive statistics including a staggering 23% of graduates achieving an ATAR of 95 and above, a remarkable 46% attaining an ATAR of 90 and above, which is a 20% improvement on the previous record. These remarkable results extend beyond just numbers; they open doors for the graduates. An extraordinary 75% received offers for their first or second preference in university courses, with science being the most popular career choice. Followed by law, humanities, business and commerce, and a notable seven graduates will be pursuing education and teaching.

Principal, Mrs Maria McIvor expressed her delight at the achievements, emphasising the hard work and dedication of both students and staff. The substantial decrease in the number of students identified as experiencing academic risk is a testament to the care and effort invested by St John’s staff in their students. In a meaningful ceremony, the Scholars of 2023 who achieved an ATAR above 90 were recognised for their exceptional results and commitment, including three students ranking among the top 300 in the entire state.

Furthermore, we were delighted to welcome Old Collegian Talia Golding, who achieved the highest ATAR in the 2023 cohort with an impressive 99.8, as our guest speaker. Her inspirational message focused on achieving a healthy balance between school and life, offering valuable advice to the current students.

The celebration continued with honouring students who have been awarded a scholarship, based on merit. Demonstrating outstanding Academic, Sporting (RISE), or Performing Arts, Mrs McIvor presented the scholarship recipients for 2024, commending their commitment to upholding the Anglican values of the College.

St John’s has once again proven its dedication to nurturing excellence in its students, and the Class of 2023 has set a benchmark for future graduates. Congratulations to all the Scholars and Scholarship recipients for their remarkable achievements!
