St John’s has announced approval of concept and planning for a world-class Aquatic Centre with an Olympic swimming facility expected to be delivered in 2025.

The Aquatic Centre to be developed on St John’s Secondary Campus will incorporate an outdoor 50-metre swimming pool with 10 lanes, an 800 seat grandstand, a strength and conditioning gymnasium and a separate indoor learn to swim pool.

This $16million project will be one of a kind facility in the local area. The project lead time will provide an opportunity for engagement and consultation with the community and key stakeholders.

Principal Mrs Maria McIvor said “with the opening of the St John’s Sports Centre redevelopment in July 2020 incorporating new indoor multipurpose courts and facilities, the St John’s Aquatic Centre will complete the College Sporting Centre of Excellence. With the exciting news that Brisbane is confirmed as host of the 2032 Olympics, St John’s Anglican College looks forward to establishing key partnerships and programs to ensure that our Aquatic Centre is utilised as an Olympic training facility while supporting the local community.”

In addition to the improvement in sporting facilities, the Aquatic Centre will provide a community café and flexible learning spaces to support the continued growth of the College.
