Celebrating Foundation Day

On Thursday 29 July the St John’s community came together to celebrate its 28th Year and the founding of the College as part of our Foundation Week, marking this milestone with a week-long celebration and various activities across the College.

Semester One Junior and Secondary Academic Assemblies were held during the week with Old Collegian Mr Martin Hoang (Class of 2020) returning to the College as guest speaker at the Secondary Assembly. Martin shared with students his advice for success; grasping every opportunity with both hands, continually striving for bigger and better results, asking questions and learning to fail in order to succeed.

College Principal, Mrs McIvor spoke to the students about our patron St John the Apostle, the dragon and the relevance to our St John’s Dragon mascot echoing our core values of Faith, Hope, Love, Courage, Community and Justice.

With members from the local government and College community in attendance, Mrs McIvor was also delighted to announce to our community the approval of concept and planning for a world-class Aquatic Centre at the College with an Olympic swimming facility expected to be delivered in 2025.

Although Foundation Day itself looked a little different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, our staff and students in Years 5 to 12 relished the opportunity to display their House spirit in the annual Courtyard Run. Congratulations to Delbeta House for winning the 2021 Courtyard Run Cup, which was presented by Mrs McIvor.
