From the Principal – October 2022

The final term is in full swing with much to celebrate and I would like to highlight the success of many events in recent times. My reason for doing this is that we have been keen to build upon the welcoming environment and friendly atmosphere everyone experiences at the College. Indeed, a couple of years ago we deliberately set out to ensure that the school would exude warmth along with a sincere and comfortable atmosphere. All should feel able to connect and be part of our community. Long-term connections should be honoured and those who just meet us should feel that this a community in which friendship can blossom. The goal was to ensure all connected with the warmth that is the reality of the College atmosphere. I had long observed that in terms of a school atmosphere the day-to-day environment was, “pure gold”.

Over the course of the year, we have had some wonderful times meeting and celebrating together. We have connected as a whole community at the very successful and magnificent College Creations on both campuses, we have connected at Coffee and Connect events, sporting carnivals, Music on the Green, and the Junior School Fancy Dress Ball, to name but a few, with parents helping in their support groups.

To walk this campus while classes are underway is to walk through one of the best schools in Queensland. The atmosphere is calm, the faces friendly and welcoming, the activity purposeful and the intent of those you meet is to be helpful. Each of these qualities translates easily into a community that welcomes all.

Recently and in succession, we had the feel of a large community sharing the joy of young children and staff in the Arts. Jazz Night and College Creations could be likened to a fine and delicately woven tapestry, revealing a rich narrative of our lives, interwoven threads, which gives our tapestry its sense of depth and warmth, colour, vibrancy, and imaginative appeal.

We celebrated the finer threads of our Arts program by showcasing the rich quality of work our students create over the year. The ‘warp and weft’ of our Arts program is woven by the teaching of the faculty comprising the departments of Music, Visual Art, and Drama and all the wonderful staff across the campuses.

When one considers the discipline and the teamwork involved, when one witnesses the unadulterated joy that shines from the stage and is then reflected by the audience, one feels a part of something special. When all those hours of rehearsal, tech runs, and orchestral practice are gloriously vindicated. These are the people responsible for guiding your children to produce the wonderful ‘finer threads’ which have been on display. The additional threads of quality to our Arts program are provided by the biennial Whole School Musical, House Choir, Musical Showcase, and co-curricular opportunities offered which include dance troupes, drama club and band, string and choral ensembles.

Together we are woven to strengthen the very fabric of our College…a place to be cherished and where we feel blessed to belong.
