Humans of St John’s
Welcome to the latest edition of Humans of St John’s featuring our recently appointed College Psychologist, Mrs Ellyse Mccallum.

I spent my childhood on the Gold Coast attending an Anglican school where I first met my husband, Harrison. A decade later, we reconnected and have been moving around the country due to his defense role with our three beloved pets. As a family, we have lived in Darwin, Albury-Wodonga, and Brisbane. Our furry friends, including OJ, a large ginger cat, and our two border collies, Archie and Harlow, have become well-travelled members of our family, always happy to be the centre of attention.
When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, baking, practising yoga and pilates, reading, meditating, spending time in nature, and taking our dogs on adventures. For over ten years, I have been passionate about working and studying in the healthcare field, and I have worked in various hospitals across Australia since 2011. I have also worked in rehabilitation counselling and private practice before joining St John’s this year.
During my studies, I completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science at Griffith University, a Master of Counselling at Monash University, and an Advanced Diploma of Professional Psychology at Monash University. Interestingly, my partner also transitioned into the field of psychology, and we even studied together, which was quite convenient. I was thrilled to return to Queensland last year after being away from home for several years and to reconnect with my family.
When I joined the St John’s community in 2023, I was immediately struck by the sense of teamwork, connection, and community. I have come to appreciate the fun-loving spirit that permeates our school and the people who make up the St John’s family. The opportunities I have had so far have enriched my learning and rekindled my passion for providing therapeutic support and intervention. I am grateful to be part of such an excellent community and am proud to be a member of our team.
